Life Story Club is a nonprofit dedicated to creating social groups for older adults to easily build friendships through sharing and preserving their life stories. The organization uses a group storytelling model to empower participants to make new connections and nurture these relationships over time.
The pandemic had disastrous effects on our social networks, especially for the social networks of older adults. This period has only heightened their longstanding experiences of loneliness and social isolation. The Life Story Club is working to rebuild these social networks. We are able to provide an accessible and inclusive option for socialization and connection creation.
Life Story Club at Home is a virtual program available to older adults across the nation. Our social groups run for one-hour every week and are guided by a Club Facilitator. The use of our Life Story Club prompt questions spur discussion and community-building. Club Facilitators encourage socialization as self-care and share other helpful healthy self-care behaviors. Life Story Club partners with care professionals, caregivers, and families to connect older adults looking for greater social engagement, including individuals who are more at risk for social isolation.
