We serve older adults and caregivers in the lower 13 counties of Illinois. We fund a senior center focal point in each county that provides congregate and home-delivered meals. We fund outreach, information and assistance, limited transportation and home modification, as well as social isolation reduction activities like letter and card delivery and calls to the homebound. Our agency has Senior Health Insurance Program Counselors for Medicare and other benefit programs. We monitor adult protective services and Ombudsman program activities, as well as provide a senior employment program. We are currently working on setting up dementia-friendly communities in our area.
We care about loneliness as it affects every aspect of someone’s life. Our mission is to improve the lives of older adults in all areas. We want to guard against social isolation and open up new opportunities for older adults in our community.
We have sent out thousands of cards and letters. We are working on getting a friendly caller program more established with more callers. We are increasing knowledge of the use of technology for socialization by partnering with community colleges to provide classes to older adults. We are applying for funding to purchase tablets for older adults in financial need of assistance and indicating a need to connect socially.
